03/27/2005: "The incubator"

The night of 27/28 March started out quite hopefully. She left at 7:08pm, returning after only 11 minutes, but left nearly immediately. She returned again at 7:44, only to leave right away. She finally returned at 8:55pm, and begain a long, quiet period of incubation, before leaving at 11:00pm. She returned after a 3-1/2 hour absence at 2:29am. She was in until 4:40.
At 4:51, a comical scene occurred. He entered the box, and found it empty. He sat in the entryway a few minutes, and then climbed back inside as she arrived. She came in head first, and tumbled over him, getting her head caught in his wing. He promptly left, and she resumed incubation.
At 5:15, she went up to the entryway and came back down with a big fuzzy object that he must have delivered to her. It was the first item we've seen her have to use her foot to hold it while she tore. At least inside the box. We have no idea what she's eating outside.
She left for her morning constitutional at 5:55, returning for the day at 6:04. Total time in the box tonight: 4 hours and 15 minutes. A new record.
